In Review: Bix in Folk Operetta's "Die Kathrin"
Opera News has praised Corey Bix for his “clear sense of drama and self-possession, exhibiting sturdy, unwavering control, flinty resonance and confident high notes.” Mr. Bix is quickly becoming known for his stirring portrayals of dramatic tenor repertoire on both opera and concert stages across the globe. In the 2022-2023 season, Mr. Bix makes his onstage debut at The Metropolitan Opera singing Major Domo in Der Rosenkavalier. He also brings his signature Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos to Arizona Opera and returns to San Francisco Opera to cover Kaiser in Die Frau ohne Schatten. The 2021-22 season brought him to Folks Operetta as Francois in Korngold’s rarely performed Die Kathrin, to Nashville Opera as Loge in Das Rheingold, and to San Francisco Opera to cover Florestan in Fidelio.
Recent seasons featured his role debut as Beadle Bamford at Des Moines Metro Opera, his role debut as Canio in I Pagliacci with El Paso Opera, his role debut as the title role in Lohengrin with Opera Southwest, Judge Danforth in The Crucible with Opera Santa Barbara, the Kronprinz in Silent Night with Arizona Opera, the Hauptmann (cover) in Wozzeck at The Metropolitan Opera, the Hauptmann in Wozzeck and the Governor in Candide with Des Moines Metro Opera, and Énée (cover) in Les Troyens with Opéra National de Paris.
